I am a Wedding Officiant who loves to preside over Micro Wedding Ceremonies. Let me tell you why.
There are many benefits to having Micro Wedding Ceremonies. They typically have no more than 50 people in attendance, according to wedding industry experts. The people involved in Micro Wedding Ceremonies includes the marrying couple, a photographer, possibly other wedding vendors, and of course, the Wedding Officiant. The marriers may have just three or four close friends with them, or, as in a Micro Wedding that I recently officiated at Pointe Dune State Reserve in Malibu, CA, the wedding couple invited eight of their closest friends, the photographer, and of course the Wedding Officiant. I officiated another Micro Wedding Ceremony in March for a couple in Montecito, CA. Their grown children and the groom’s brother were in attendance, a total of 10 people.
Why people Choose to have a Micro Wedding Ceremony
There are other benefits to having a Micro Wedding Ceremony. Often, these couples have known each other for a long time. They may have lived together, and they may or may not have raised children together. The emotional foundation of their relationship is strong. They are now putting that final, legal touch on their union.
Economic Considerations
Economic decisions are certainly a benefit to having a Micro Wedding Ceremony. Let’s face it: Micro Wedding Ceremonies cost a lot less than a larger affair. Perhaps the couple wants to use the money that they would otherwise spend on a larger celebration on something else, be it a honeymoon, education, the down payment on a house, or perhaps for their eventual retirement.
Unique and Personal Wedding Script
Don’t be fooled by the word Micro! Here’s another benefit to having a Micro Wedding ceremony. They are and should be as uniquely crafted to every couple as much as any larger ceremony. As a Wedding Officiant, I spend as much time preparing for a Micro Wedding as I do for a larger event. I send my wedding couples anywhere from one to three detail-oriented questionnaires about their Love Story, who’s in their wedding party, and any rituals they may want to include in their wedding ceremony.
Locations for Micro Wedding Ceremonies
Being able to have your wedding ceremony almost anywhere is a benefit to having a Micro Wedding Ceremony, to be sure. Couples enjoy getting married in their own backyard, or in the backyard of a friend or relative. Other couples love having their micro wedding ceremony in a park, on the beach, or in the forest. I will be officiating a micro wedding ceremony later this year in a gym where the bride and the groom met each other! How fun is this? I have already created a never-before-done barbell ritual to conclude their ceremony. They will lift a barbell together in a ritual showing of unity, cooperation, and trust, before I pronounce them married. I can hardly wait, and neither can they.
Don’t Forget the Permit!
One thing to keep in mind when getting creative with your micro wedding ceremony and celebration location is this. If you’re getting married in California, you will need to have a permit from a municipal, state, or federal agency, if you are marrying each other on land that is administered by a government agency. For example, if you are marrying each other on a State Nature Preserve, or on a State Beach, that will require a permit. A State Recreation Area is another area that requires a permit. These are not expensive, but they must be acquired before your ceremony; the fine, if you cannot produce the permit, could be as much as $1500.00. Ouch!
